Volleyball preview: AWC at South Mountain

Last game: AWC started off on the right foot against Scottsdale, but lost in four games. South Mountain played at home against Southwestern College on Tuesday.
Records: AWC (0-2 overall, 0-2 Arizona Community College Athletic Conference); South Mountain (0-0 overall (22-21, 8-10 ACCAC in 2007)
Player to watch: Preseason All-American Luci Toazzi has already racked up 33 kills for AWC, which averages out to nearly six per game. ... Chelsea Hillman is one of just two returning sophomores.
AWC coach Karen Sitkiewicz's comments: "We're just trying to work things out here as a team and figure out to play as a team rather than six individuals. We just want to get some more consistency from our lineup."
The lowdown: At 0-2, the Matadors have already equalled their number of conference losses from all of last season. AWC got a bit of good news over the weekend with the arrival of Brazilian blocker Fernanda Costa on campus Sunday, and Sitkiewicz said she may play against South Mountain. The power outage at AWC kept the team from practicing at The House Tuesday. The Cougars have a busy schedule this week, with three matches in three days and the Southwestern Tournament Friday and Saturday. The last time South Mountain beat AWC was in 1997.
